October 13, 2021 – Munich and Prague: Global Payments Europe (GPE) and Rubean AG, Munich (ISIN: DE0005120802, WKN: 512080) announce that Rubean’s PhonePOS™ core business with small and mobile merchants has successfully expanded into the corporate services sector. A major parcel service in Hungary is using PhonePOS technology for customers who have chosen to pay “cash on delivery.” These customers can hold their card to the delivery agent’s card reader, who has installed the PhonePOS app, to make the payment. The initial transaction volumes for the new service are remarkable: Within a few days of its introduction, transactions have already exponentially increased to over a thousand payments per day, with a clear upward trend.
PhonePOS allows any merchant with an Android device to download the PhonePOS app from the Google Play Store and start accepting contactless card payments without the need for an additional card reader. PhonePOS offers secure, cost-effective, and universally accepted card payments to merchants of all types, without the need to purchase or lease hardware. PhonePOS is PCI-CPoC certified and therefore globally authorized without limitations.
The market for cashless payments is undergoing significant changes worldwide. Hungary is a prime example: On January 1st of this year, a new legislation came into effect in Hungary, requiring all merchants with an online cash register to be able to accept electronic payments as well. An estimated 60,000 merchants who previously only accepted cash are affected by the new legislation. Already, hundreds of these merchants are processing daily amounts in the six-figure euro range using Rubean’s PhonePOS technology.
“The purely software-based acceptance of card payments enables or simplifies on-site payments in many cases and creates new business opportunities. We have chosen Rubean’s PhonePOS solution and aim to introduce this innovation in other markets,” says Karel Jara, Executive Director and VP Product Development at GPE.
